Evaluation of the present heating system
Do you have an oil fired boiler, electric heating, district heating, wood or pellet burning at the moment? How does it work in terms of comfort, afficiency and cost? Are you tired of high electricity bills, a bulky oil fired boiler that fails or endless wood chopping? A properly executed heat pump installation should give you security, comfort and good total economy.
How old is your present heating system? How many years has it got left before it needs replacing? How efficient is the system today? These questions are related. For example, it can be counter productive to use an inefficient system even if, purely technically, it will last yet for a few years.
How much space does your present heating system take up? For example, a boiler and oil tank takes up a lot of room. A heat pump has space on a floor area of less than half a square metre. You may free some space for something more enjoyable, like a hobby.
Present energy cost
Prevailing energy cost? The main reason for most people to change to heat pumps is that the present heating costs are too high. Make a cost diagram for at least the last year. Try to make a snapshot going back further so that an unusually mild – or cold – winter does not give a misleading picture. |
